Heicom / Amsterdam Tree Sand

Heicom / Amsterdam Tree Sand

Heicom or Amsterdam Tree Sand is the UK's most recognised brand of structural tree planting soil.

The planting of semi-mature trees in highly populated, dense urban environments has always caused issues for architects and planners, due to the conflict arising between the health of the tree and the stability of the road/pavement on the surface.

Amsterdam tree sand was designed in a Dutch University in the late nineties as a solution to the problem caused by the planting of semi-mature trees into unsuitable environments. To maintain the structural integrity of a road, pavement or car park, contractors were obliged to use surround the root balls with structural materials such as Type 1 or any MOT approved aggregate. After a while, the roots of these trees began to break the surrounding surface, desperately seeking out the nutrients they needed to survive. The trees either began to slowly die, or their roots would eventually force their way through the pavement/tarmac surround, eventually leading to costly repair work.

The formula is relatively simple and was patented by the Heicom brand. There are a host of companies that offer their own valid variation of the tree sand formula (often branded as "city sand" or "arbour sand") but Heicom is often specified by architects as the original formula. Bourne Amenity were approached by Heicom due to their proximity to the London market, along with an existing infrastructure and client base that suited such a product. Along with a midlands based manufacturer, Bourne Amenity are one of two registered producers of the Heicom formula within the UK and have been successfully supplying Heicom for over 15 years.

Heicom can be delivered in loose tipper loads up to 29 tonne, grab loads up to 18 tonne or in our bulk bags.

Having our own fleet of tippers, grabs and hiab offload facilities allows us the flexibility and reliability to deliver any quantity to you on time with minimal fuss. Plus our drivers have extensive experience of delivering into some very demanding areas, like central London (our entire fleet has been passed by TFL on their FORS scheme).
